Gay Straight Transgender Alliance

Advisor: Terry Martin, Rebecca Tanous

Purpose: The Gay Straight Alliance is a student-directed organization that offers a safe and comfortable venue in which students of all sexual orientations and gender identification/expression are able to share events and concerns of their lives and their community. The Alliance works throughout the academic year to educate members of our school population about issues of every student's civil rights, the need for equality, and respect for individuals of every sexual orientation and gender identification. Students of all identifications are warmly welcome.

Activities and pursuits: Weekly meetings; Day of Silence; Ally Week; workshops and movies that deal with issues related to gender identification and orientation; discussion groups; opportunities to travel to area presentations.

Other information: There are monthly GSA meetings of all Gay Straight Alliance student organizations in our region to which our students are welcome. The GSA also has a working relationship with other organizations such as the MTA Civil Rights Team, the Center for for the Prevention of Hate Violence, and the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN). We work with them to educate the community as advocates for justice and equality, particularly for students in their high school years.
