Dear Seniors,
As we continue to navigate these difficult times, please know that you all are on our minds. It’s impossible to have predicted this is how you would culminate your high school career, and we know that this is a very difficult time for many of you. We wish you were in school right now enjoying the last bits of senior year, and we wish we could witness your Capstone presentations in person. We know the amount of time and energy that many of you put into your projects has certainly proven your abilities to excel beyond the walls of Mt. Ararat High School, and we do not want you to miss the opportunity to show and teach your peers about your project.
Since Capstone as we know it has been canceled this year, we still want to offer you an opportunity to showcase what you learned throughout the entire Capstone process. You have two options:
1.
Create a presentation. The presentation could be a slideshow with audio and presenter notes, or the presentation could be a video recording of you presenting to your family. If you experience trouble with technology, the Learning Commons staff is more than willing to help. Please email Mrs. Crawford if you have any issues with technology.
2.
Write a reflection paper. The reflection paper will outline the same information that you would address in a traditional presentation.
If you have another idea, please contact Ms. Barbour, Mrs. Belanger, or Mrs. Brawn.
*NOTE* If you do not have access to the internet, you may write the reflection paper or complete a slideshow or presentation offline. You may need to find a location in which you can access the internet in order to submit your presentation or paper.
We have revised the presentation rubric slightly to allow for quick responses to the statements outlined below. The adjudicators of your presentation or written reflection will respond with either “yes” or “no.” You will need at least 70% “yes” to pass Capstone, which is a pass/fail grade. There will be at least two faculty or staff from the building reviewing your presentation or written reflection. With either a presentation or a written reflection, be sure to address the information below:
1. Standard: Clear and Effective Communicator
a. Describes process with specific and clear details.
b. Effectively showcases what student learned, produced, and accomplished.
c. Effectively communicates to audience with clear pronunciation and adequate volume or through written word.
2. Standard: Self-Directed and Lifelong Learner
a. Provides examples and explanations of what was learned and accomplished during the project and with mentor.
b. Effectively assesses the personal impact of learning experiences and mentor contacts.
3. Standard: A Creative and Practical Problem Solver
a. Describes successes, failures, challenges, roadblocks, discoveries, and surprises and used creative solutions to address roadblocks.
4. Standard: A Responsible and Involved Citizen
a. Refers to communication with mentor on a regular basis to support project completion or learning process and communicates that respect was shown for all involved.
5. Standard: An Integrative and Informed Thinker
a. Incorporates appropriate and effective materials, resources, demonstrations, or accessories to enhance audience understanding and appreciation.
b. Evaluates and synthesizes information from multiple sources.
The due dates are as follows:
Senior submission (using this Google Form): Friday, May 8
Teacher and advisor feedback of presentation and process: Friday, May 22
Remediation of project if necessary: first week of June
